Head of School Update: Friday June 2, 2017

Dear JH Classical Academy Families,

This has been a joyful week of class field trips and celebrations, in such beautiful weather.  Today, the 7th & 8th Grades combined Science and Physical Education with a bike trip to Josie’s Ridge for Nature Study.  The 2nd & 3rd Grades had a Pioneer Day celebration, complete with square dancing and treats from the Bar J Chuckwagon.  On Wednesday, our 1st Grade completed an all-day adventure around Jackson Hole.  Please read this wonderful BuckRail article sharing the details: Buckrail. Next week our 4th Grade is heading to the Jackson Hole History Museum and the Kindergarten class is returning to Haderlie Farms.  Don’t worry 5th Grade: we have a surprise coming for you!  And 6th Grade, you did get to ski the tram this winter and learn about the engineering behind that amazing machine.
The end of the year also brings changes.  I’m so excited to share with you today three of the new faculty joining our team.  Miss McWhorter is moving here from West Dallas Community School and will be teaching Elementary Art and 4th Grade Literature and History.  Mr. Wilson is coming from Great Hearts Academies in Arizona and will be teaching 5th Grade Singapore Math, 8th Grade Earth Science, 9th Grade Biology and the 9th Grade Practical Arts.  Miss Dewald is coming from Windsor Charter Academy in Montana and will be our 2nd Grade Homeroom teacher.   Please enjoy reading their faculty profiles below.  It is clear that all three love education and the outdoors.  I’m happy they are moving here in June and July to enjoy the summer in Jackson Hole!

Each of the teachers who are heading on to new opportunities and locales have expressed to me their gratitude for the privilege of serving your children.  They appreciate the love and support from families and colleagues as they committed themselves to this important task.  We are thankful for their service to the school, and we will miss them all.

Haley Hart will remain in Jackson Hole and will begin working this summer for Community Entry Services (CES), assisting adults with disabilities and ensuring that they feel like a valued part of our community.  Haley became acquainted with the services of CES while volunteering at the Jackson Hole Therapeutic Riding Association.  She is looking forward to being able to work one-on-one with these wonderful individuals.

Shannon Sullivan will be joining her fiancé, Andrew, in Cody, Wyoming this coming fall. She will be returning to work at the Boy Scout camp outside of Yellowstone this summer, where they met.  She and Andrew plan to be married around Christmas.  Miss Sullivan is thrilled for this new chapter in her life.

Jennifer Baki will work closer to home in Star Valley next fall at the district school and is looking forward to this new experience. Jen, Chas, Magnolia, and Daphne are all excited about the adoption of the newest Baki, who currently resides in a Chinese orphanage. Prayers for a speedy adoption process are appreciated.

Jocelyn Paul will be moving back to the Philadelphia area in July to be closer to her family and friends. In the fall, she will join the faculty of a brand new Catholic school, Martin Saints Classical, where she will teach 9th grade Science and 9th grade Philosophy.

Stay tuned for more announcements: a new chef, new staff and more teachers!  I’m so grateful for everyone’s contribution to JHCA, those coming and those going.  It takes resolution and fortitude from all of us — teachers, students, parents — to build a school and community.

Onward & Upward,

Mrs. Polly J. Friess
