Student Life

Athletics

The athletic program at Jackson Hole Classical Academy reflects the Academy’s commitment to educating the whole person, in mind, body, and soul. Our students are encouraged to pursue excellence in competition – and many do. JHCA students excel, even nationally, in alpine skiing, golf, lacrosse, soccer, hockey, football, as well as in other individual and team sports.

Students at Jackson Hole Classical Academy are given both the space and time to pursue their personal athletic endeavors. Our new 80-acre campus provides the outdoor space needed for rigorous exercise and practice, while our recently constructed field house is equipped with a high school regulation basketball and volleyball court, a 2,000 square foot professional-grade weight room, and a full-sized commercial kitchen.

In both our indoor and outdoor spaces, Jackson Hole Classical Academy offers various extra-curricular activities to our students. During the school year, for instance, students – led by experienced faculty – run on a cross country team that competes regionally in both Wyoming and Idaho. In the summer, the Academy hosts a six-week volleyball camp, as well as various youth basketball camps. These, too, are directed by experienced JHCA faculty that have extensive coaching and playing experience in the sports in question.

In both the lower school and upper school, Jackson Hole Classical Academy offers competitive athletic avenues through local sporting clubs. Alpine Skiing – in which many of our students actively participate – and The Nordic Program, are offered through Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club. Lacrosse, likewise, is offered locally through Jackson Hole Lacrosse Club.

Students play soccer with Jackson Hole Youth Soccer. Basketball opportunities are offered through Jackson Hole Youth Basketball for students K-8, while high school students can play competitive basketball through JHHS, at which Coach Lunz and Coach Gildersleeve – both Academy teachers –  are head and assistant coaches, respectively. Skating is offered to both lower and upper school students through The Skating Club of Jackson Hole. JHCA students of all ages dance through Dancers Workshop.

As students enter the high school, they’re granted the opportunity to pursue athletics following their dismissal from core classes at 1:45 PM. Their early departure affords them the necessary time to excel in both their academic and athletic commitments. More may be learned about the upper school academic program here.
