Dear JH Classical Academy Parents,

Polish your boots ‘n’ round up your young’uns for the Square Dance tonight!  Family style dinner at 5:30 PMsharp, prepared by Jeff Zender and his Back to Basics crew. Dude ranch caller Stephen Lassiter and his wife Shea galloped through the mush from Cody to lead us in a night of fun.  We’ll be dancin’ till the cows come home, so please come!

Last night, Jennifer & Jonathan Scott hosted a Salon Dinner with sixteen friends in our community to discuss classical and progressive educational theories and their different impacts. The thoughtful conversation was facilitated by senior advisory board member, Dr. Dan Russ, and our 8th Grade literature and Latin teacher, Mr. Ben Walter.  These times require us to hone our ability to ask questions and engage in civil discourse.  Thank you Jenn & Jon for facilitating such a beautiful discussion!

Packets for our Reading Rally will be sent home on Monday, February 13; the same day the pledge and donation gathering process begins.  Mark your calendars for Tuesday, February 21 from 3:20-3:50 PM!  The Reading Rally will launch that day with an opportunity for parents to read with their children in the multipurpose room.  Remember: when grandparents, aunts or uncles read with your children, they receive double points towards our fundraising goals!

Check out the improvements Mrs. Carrie Schrauder has made to our website!  With a quick glimpse, you’ll understand why she is a nationally recognized photographer and artist.  To fully implement her vision, we need your help: if your child is involved in a community activity such as a theater production, or wins a ski, skating or hockey competition, or is invited to America’s Got Talent (posted today!), please send this information to Mrs. Birnie. Our new “Student Life” section celebrates our students’ involvement in the greater Jackson Hole community.

It is wonderful to see ways that our greater community benefits the Academy and to also see how our students and faculty join the greater Jackson Hole community. The performance by GTMF artists on Monday was stunning and questions from the students clearly show their depth of musical knowledge.  Dr. Wagner, Miss Morton and Miss Porter were judges for JHHS Speech and Debate competition, which was a great service and lots of fun.

Thanks to those of you who have expressed appreciation for our faculty profile pieces.  With Miss Molly Porter, perfect pitch and perfect SAT scores are just the beginning of her exceptional qualities.  Next year she will lead the distinctive course in Humane Letters for JHCA’s first class of 9th grade students.  Please enjoy reading about Molly and this course’s robust learning goals!
