Head of School Update: Friday September 29, 2017

Dear JH Classical Academy Parents,

Today completes our first month of school!  I hope families have adjusted to school schedules and that you are in a good rhythm with homework management and uniform expectations.  If not, please reach out to your teachers so that we know how to support you better.  History and Science projects are beginning, and the 5th Grade class will be the first to present their cell molecules for classmates and parents next Thursday, October 5th
Faculty Professional Development occurs every Wednesday afternoon, which is why you pick up your children at 3:20 PM on Wednesdays.  Each month we take a week to unite relationally, develop professionally, enrich spiritually, or support practically.  This month, we hiked Josie’s Ridge together; held curriculum break-out sessions; started our study of how to be joyful despite circumstances, people or worry; and peer taught techniques for engaging students, setting expectations, and creating a strong classroom culture. We have a uniquely gifted team of teachers at JH Classical Academy.  I enjoy supporting and leading them.

Many of the faculty attended the premiere of Forgiveness: The Secret of Peace at the Center for the Arts this week.  This was a beautiful (and painful) documentary film on the life and work of Fr. Ubald and his efforts to bring healing and hope to his nation since the 1994 Rwandan Genocide.  Isn’t it wonderful to know that a film on forgiveness was completely sold-out in Jackson Hole?  I love how this community comes together on important principles such as remembering, forgiving… and being joy-filled!

There are seven different channels to volunteer and fulfill the 9-hours per year that we request from each family.  Here is the list:

1.    Faculty Appreciation, Manjola Koci
2.    Classroom Support, Heather Molder
3.    Academy Events, Lisa Landis
4.    Administrative Tasks, Sarah Lustfield
5.    Building Maintenance, Cindy Zabriskie
6.    Advancement Work, Dan Walker
7.    Prayer Warriors, Polly Friess

Please sign-up for one of these seven channels through your OwlNet forms or by clicking on the above emails.  After the long Columbus Day Weekend, you will receive an email from the team leader with volunteer opportunities.  Our top two needs at the moment are: Library book organizers and poster distribution volunteers.  Thank you for your support of our school.  The 700 hours of volunteer time last year significantly helped our budget and provided meaningful opportunities to connect with other parents.

Please read the reminders below, and start making plans for a 4-day homework-free weekend!

Happy Fall Wyoming-style,

Mrs. Polly J. Friess
