Virtual Learning Update: Sunday, April 5, 2020

Dear JH Classical Academy Parents,

Good evening!  You should have received an email from your homeroom teacher tonight outlining the exact learning schedule for your children.  Having four children of my own, I know it not easy to get organized for Virtual Learning.  So, I hope that added communication provided further clarity and support as you prepare for tomorrow.
Tomorrow is a practice day.  It’s a time to run through the day checking to make sure you have the right class times, the right Meeting IDs and Passwords, the right place to work and the right shirt, and enough devices for all your children to connect at the right times. Teachers will be welcoming students, explaining changes, answering questions, but assigning no homework.  It’s a day of grace that we all need!

I wanted to further explain that we are committing to about 60% of our regular classroom learning and 60% of our regular homework.  K-4 students are on-line for only 1.5 hours/day; Grades 5-6 are on-line for 2 hours and 15 minutes/day; and Grades 7-11 are on-line for 2 hours 45 minutes/day.  There's room inbetween for breaks, snacks, or for homework. All teachers are offering virtual office hours and inviting students to a virtual lunch, but those connections are optional.

In addition, K-6 students are being offered optional art, music, and chess classes each week.  If your children would enjoy the music enrichment, art challenge, or on-line chess competitions, they can participate but these assignments are not required.  For Grades 7 & 8, Art and Music are weekly assignments, but not optional.  Grades 9 & 11 are continuing with their required high school electives.

I am offering two times on Friday for parents to communicate joys and concerns to me, but reach out earlier via email if needed.  I’m eager to hear from you.  These are challenging times, and I care about your families.  It is our desire to see all school work done during the day, to allow evenings to be for family meals, games and rest.

Have a blessed Holy Week,

Mrs. Friess

Important Zoom Security Update

Zoom has updated their security to require a "Meeting Password" when you login for a meeting. Zoom assigned each teacher with a six digit password and we have created this pdf (Faculty & Staff Zoom Information) so you'll have their "Meeting ID" and "Meeting Password" in one place. When students login for class as they did before Spring Break, the only additional step is to enter the teacher's six digit meeting password into the pop-up window that appears. This information is also on your Parent's Resource Page within OwlNet.
