Head of School Update Thursday, May 16, 2019

Dear JH Classical Academy Families,

Tonight is a special night at our Academy. It is our annual Evening of the Arts, and the last performance of our five years in this building.  It is a celebration of music, poetry, and learning this year, and a closure to the founding phase of JH Classical Academy in this space.

A liberal arts education is a vital foundation for both individual flourishing and the well-being of our society. We celebrate both tonight -- the individual flourishing of students in areas where God has gifted them and they have excelled, and the cultural preservation of our Western cannon through our oral and visual arts program here at JH Classical Academy.
Plato, in his Republic, said: “The object of education is to teach us to love what is beautiful.”  Tonight, we celebrate not only the transference of knowledge to these students, but the transmission of beauty that forms their souls. Augustine taught us that we are shaped more by what we love than what we think or do. For this reason, forming the affections of students towards what is true, beautiful, and good is the important mission of this school.

As students walk out of the school, a quote overhead reminds them: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” - Proverbs 4:23.

Bring your family and friends tonight to our Open House at 4:30 PM and our Evening of the Arts program from 6-7:15 PM and come celebrate with us!

For His Glory,

Mrs. Polly J. Friess
